Andover Hockey Club got their new season under way on Saturday, when they held their annual tournament to commemorate founder member Clint Dickie.

Held at John Hanson School, the day started with the club’s junior sides returning to training.

This group included 20 plus new players between the ages of five and 14 years, who all enjoyed themselves.

Later in the day the club’s senior members and friends spent the afternoon either playing or watching sides battle it out for the Clint Dickie Trophy.

The round robin tournament had all the sides playing each other once and points were awarded from each game.

The games were all played in a light-hearted way but from time to time competitiveness could be seen to be creeping into them.

Everybody had a good afternoon and the eventual winners on points, The Misfits, were presented with the trophy by a member of Clint’s family.

Charitable donations will be made from monies taken during the course of the afternoon.

Andover Diamonds travelled for their first game of the new season and came home with a 4-0 victory over Salisbury.

After 17 minutes John Priestley-Cooper opened the scoring following an attacking run by Paul Collins then just past the half hour Priestley-Cooper received the ball from Richard Romer-Lee and scored his second without ceremony.

Just before halftime Romer-Lee and Alan Shaw combined and Romer-Lee netted the third.

After the break Shaw was unlucky with a couple of efforts but Diamonds were to have the final say when Collins made a driving run and slipped the ball to the ever prowling Priestley-Cooper for the final act of the game.
