Local table tennis veteran Tony Brown won three gold medals when playing for England in the over-70 section of the Six Nations Tournament, in Perth, Scotland.
Brown, who plays in the Andover and Basingstoke Leagues, has competed for England before in this section and was ranked number two for the English team.
The competing teams were from England, Guernsey, Ireland, Isle of Man, Scotland and Wales and each match consisted of two players who each played two singles and one doubles.
Team England won all their matches 5-0, ensuring they all won by finishing top of their section.
In the open doubles Tony was partnered by the England number one Peter Radford and, while they had previously beaten their Welsh opponents 3-0 in the team event, the final was a tough task.
With Radford running out of steam, the pair just held on and eventually won 13-11 in the fifth game.
The open singles provided another gold for Brown, when he defeated the England number three Keith Powell 3-1 in the final. l The Andover League’s usual pre-season Hard Bat Tournament will be held this this evening and the league season starts week commencing October 6.
This season Division 1 consists of last season’s champions Tigers together with Hanson Pumas, John Hanson A, Hanson Jaguars, Figheldean, Hanson Cougars and Hanson Dolphins.
Division 2 includes Enham, Hanson Panthers, Three D’s, Hanson Pigeons, Hanson Hawks, Hanson Lions, Hanson Falcons and hopefully Test Valley A.
