Cowes Sports 3 Andover New St 1.

New Street are still looking for their first win of the season after a predictable, but battling defeat at Cowes Sports on Saturday.

Paul Reidy’s men took the game to the home side and after Dave Tasker had to be fully alert as Enrique Villar shot at goal in the first 20 seconds, Cowes were stunned in the fifth minute when a ball in from right touch line saw Shane Lock lay back to Craig Harman to fire home from edge of area to give New Street the lead.

Street held on until a defensive error gifted Jordan Browne the equaliser on the half hour mark.

New Street defended well to repel the threat but the pressure finally told with ten minutes left when Villar broke into area only to be brought down by keeper Tasker who was harshly sent off.

Keelan Sainsbury sent the spot kick high to stand-in keeper Liam Wilkins’ left to give the Yachtsmen the lead which they increased in injury time when Browne’s effort was adjudged to have crossed the goal-line before Wilkins grabbed hold of the ball.

Reidy was pleased with his side’s showing but admitted he was feeling the frustration a shis sides cannot kill teams off when they have a chance. “We played well as a team and Tasker made some great saves but at t his level we must learn to finish teams off when we go ahead.

Street have signed Tidworth Town midfielder Marcus Roper and he is in the squad for Saturday’s home game with Fleet Spurs.

The side have been drawn at home to Hook in the Basingstoke Senior Cup while Overton United await them in the Russel Cotes Cup.
