WITH the weather taking a turn for the worse Andover kept their winning run going by hammering Portsmouth University.
Andover had a poor start but, after getting a lucky break, the deadlock was broken through Sam Cowley.
It wasn’t long before the opposition were unable to keep up with Andover’s fast counter attacking hockey and two more goals came in quick succession from Jamie Hacker. The defence soaked up a lot of pressure throughout and put an incredible performance together to back up the strong attacking players in the squad.
Cowley put in another splendid effort, earning numerous short corners that allowed himself and Olly Bridge to take Andover into the break with a 5-0 lead.
After the break Andover squandered plenty of chances and frustration boiled over at times, reducing the team to nine players at one point. However, they still dominated the match. Harry Trott, Mark Eggington and Tom Burnham linked well together in the centre of midfield giving Jack Trott and Will Osmond the opportunity to get forward and cause problems for the defence.
Bridge threaded plenty of balls through to the forwards and Osmond opened his account for the season after another great forward run.
Hacker capped his game with his third and the win means Andover have now taken 18 points from 18 to remain top of the league by two points.
