THE closest match of the week in the Andover Table Tennis Association was in Division 1 when despite a 5- 5 draw in sets, Pumas beat Hanson A 23-21.

Richard Fettes (Pumas) just kept up his 100 per cent record when holding off Steve Rollason 10-12, 13-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, to win his three sets. He was assisted with two from Shaun Carver, while for the opposition Rollason also won two sets.

Hanson A took the doubles when Peter Henderson and Dan Geary beat Fettes and Carver 11-5, 8-11, 11-1, 6- 11, 9-11.

Tigers took Hanson Cougars apart 25-11 with both Malcolm Cummins and Andy Snellgrove taking three.

Steve Harris played well for Cougars.

The highest scoring match of the season was between Figheldean and Hanson Jaguars, which resulted in a 19-18 points win but a defeat by four sets to six.

Lionel Coles (Figheldean) won two and the star for Jaguars was Trevor Whitelock with three, ably supported with two from Clive Hacker.

In Division 2 Test Valley A were mauled by Hanson Lions 7-25, for whom Mike Bonarius had three and Darren Walkom and Jonny Macey getting two each.

Enham beat an improving Hanson Pidgeons 25-15 with Patrick Baker, Pete Farmer and Roy Horner all winning two sets.

A 17-17 draw was achieved between Hanson Falcons and Hanson Hawks, who also shared five sets each.

Paul Lloyd (Falcons) took three and was supported by two from Jason Cullip. For Hawks Adam Lockington won two, with Ollie Raymond and Matt Selwood managing one each.

The last match in the first round of the Advertiser Cup saw 3D’s of Division 2 beat Hanson Cougars of Division 1 8-1.

3D’s were well worth their win, with Nicky Downs and Marie Dyke both taking two and Jessie Yi getting one.
