BROUGHTON progressed into the semi-final of the Jimmy Monro Open Cup after a 6-0 victory over Division 4 side Wildebeest.

Broughton started dominantly and piled early pressure onto the visitors’ defence and found the breakthrough on 25 minutes through Kristian Cumberbatch bursting through the Wildebeest backline and slotting the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs.

Lewis Alderman was then denied minutes later when his curling freekick was somehow parried away by the Wildebeest 'keeper.

Cumberbatch then doubled the lead for the hosts just before half-time.

The result was settled shortly after with Cumberbatch completing a hattrick, showing good strength to muscle through once again and firing home.

During build up to the third goal a Wildebeest player stood on the ball awkwardly and the game was halted for 15 minutes as he suffered a serious injury requiring an ambulance and once played restarted, Broughton continues to press and Joe Windibank added a fourth after a goalmouth scramble.

Man of the Match Cumberbatch grabbed his fourth of the game before top scorer Mathew Marriner fired home a thunderous drive from 20 yards which rounded off the scoring at 6-0.

Broughton face Tavern FC in the Semi Finals, with a date yet to be confirmed.
