AFTER Tuesday night’s disappointment in the Basingstoke Senior Cup Overton needed to bounce right back to winning ways, but again had players missing, including James McCallion, Kirk Smith, Ollie Bode, Dave Parry and Danny Houseman.

Steve Caswell was welcomed back with Luke Neller and Jess Todd was given his first chance after being in the reserves and A team for some while.

Winchester Castle’s pitch was in good nick and with Overton playing into the wind in the first half they had most of the play but should have scored early on.

Chris Lavisher had a one-on-one with the keeper, who saved with his feet.

Todd then went through on goal and seemed to be brought down in the box, but the referee waved play and James Jupp also had a penalty shout turned down.

Overton had the upper hand for most of the half and limited Winchester to long range shots which Sean O’Brien had no problems with as the first period finished goalless.

Overton got off to a great start in the second half, passing the ball with composure.

They took the lead just before the hour, following some good work from Laith Aldoori who beat three men before finding Jupp who shot home.

This woke Winchester and within five minutes a bad clearance fell to Sam Strange who hit a rocket of a shot to level.

Overton's midfield four then linked well and Neller fed Lavisher who ran on to score on 69 minutes.

Man of the match Todd worked hard to close down the defence and was rewarded by winning the ball back and playing in Neller netted four minutes later.

Overton went for it again and Lavisher, Nick Jupp and James Jupp went close before the brothers played their part in making the fourth goal as they linked up well to find Todd, who beat his marker to score.
