BROUGHTON secured their first trophy of the season in the North Hants Chris Price Cup, with a 4-1 victory over FC Everest of Basingstoke at Foxcotte Park.

The torrid weather was always going to play a key factor with the strong wind blowing down the hill giving Everest a first half advantage, and within 15 minutes the Basingstoke Division 2 leaders were ahead.

Broughton dusted themselves off and took hold of the game and dominating play for the next 20 minutes got their reward just after the half hour mark when Lewis Alderman delivered deep into the box to find Daniel Lang who fired home the equaliser.

As half-time approached, Broughton's pressure continued, and when Gary Lane was fouled in the box Lang stepped up to give the villagers a 2-1 lead.

With the wind behind them in the second half, Broughton really pressed hard and extended the advantage when Joe Windibank broke through to score from a pinpoint Matthew Marriner through ball.

Shane Vidler nearly added another immediately after but Broughton then suffered a blow when goalkeeper Tom Erskine landed awkwardly and had to leave the field of play and was replaced by reserve 'keeper Russell Bedford.

The Basingstoke side nearly pulled one back on the 75th minute mark, when a free kick was cleared off the line by France-Sargeant but Broughton then wrapped up the game with just under ten minutes to go, Bedford launching the ball from a goal-kick the length of the field, and man of the match Windibank fired home securing the trophy for the village side.
