LONGPARISH won a low-scoring thriller by one wicket in County 2.
Despite Ed Duckworth’s 5-33, Longparish chased down 139 to win their first game of the season.
Harry Martin, last season’s leading wicket-taker, claimed 4-22 from his ten overs and Ben Gardner 3-29 as Longparish, having won the toss, restricted Andover II to 138-9.
Three quick wickets for Martin reduced Andover II to 33-3, which became 78-6 following a Matt Jackman brace.
Some sensible lower-order batting from Phil Knight (14) and Alex Thompson (25) ensured Andover II at least had a total to bowl at.
Duckworth responded with a performance that earned him a call-up to Andover’s first team.
He ripped out both openers before reducing Longparish to 92-8, when Barry Blackmore (27) and Alex Coetzee (18) responded brilliantly.
But Blackmore was cleaned up with the scores level.
After his heroics with the ball, last-man Martin patted back four balls before calling Coetzee through for a bye and the winning run.
