FA Cup football will return to the Portway Stadium for the first time in over six years after Andover Town were handed a home draw in the recent fixture announcements.

The extra preliminary round tie will see Town take on Dorset Premier League side Gillingham Town on Saturday 15 August, with the winners of that game facing a long drive to either Hamworthy United or Hallen Athletic.

Town have also bagged a home tie in the FA Vase as they face up against fellow Wessex Premier League side Fawley FC on September 5.

Meanwhile Andover's newly formed youth side have also claimed an exciting home draw as they take on Fleet Town in the preliminary round on September 7.

Talking about the announcement, Andover Town manager Neil Benson, said: "I'm very excited at the thought of FA Cup football coming back to the Portway.

"It is still very much one of the most prestigious competitions in the world and it will be a great experience for many of the players who haven't had that opportunity before.

"It will also be great for the home fans who haven't had FA Cup football at the Portway for a few years."

He added: "We have a lot coming up this year particularly with two youth sides who will be playing on Wednesday afternoons and Sundays.

"They will also be playing in the FA Youth Cup - which i'm really looking forward to."

"It's a very exciting time for Andover Town Football Club."
