The game subsequently went in to a penalty shoot out with Ben Morris easily dispatching Vernham's first.

Matthews, Ricky Mitchell and Robbie Skeates also netted before Matty Sawyer saved the visitor's third attempt to give Vernham a 4-1 penalty win.

Andover Royals 1 - Broughton Reserves 5

Broughton Reserves easily progressed into the second round of the North Hants John Ward Cup after a 5-1 victory over Andover Royals.

Both sides created half chances in the early stages, Lewis Barlow coming closest for the away side pulling a shot just wide from close range.

Brandon Smith then forced a top drawer save from the Royals keeper with a powerful header.

Broughton finally broke the deadlock five minutes before the break when Dean Wilson fired home a free kick off the crossbar.

George Beare made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time created through some wonderful passing play.

Andover Royals started brighter in the second half and were awarded a penalty which Owen Bestford dispatched to halve the deficit.

But Broughton quickly restored their two goal lead through Ross Bates.

The visitors pressed on and grabbed further goals through Smith and James Dickie.

Welcome Stranger 1 - Chineham Reserves 2

Welcome Stranger were knocked out of the North Hants John Ward Cup by Basingstoke-based side Chineham Reserves.

Stranger started well and created chances through Luke Soulby, but his efforts were off target.

The home side did manage to get their noses in front however, when Stuart Anderson headed home a Richard Arnold corner just before half time.

Stranger had several chances to double their lead in the second half but were made to pay for their missed opportunities when Chineham bagged two quick goals.

The home side thought they had equalised late on but it was ruled offside, ending Stranger's hopes of pushing the game into penalties.

Collingbourne sailed through to the next round of the North Hants John Ward Cup with a 2-0 win over Soldiers Return Reserves.

Deano Smart doubled their advantage soon after, latching on to a ball from Bernie Brennan to put the home side 2-0 up at half time.

Collingbourne had a golden opportunity to kill off the game when Brennan, Smart and Scott Foster were all involved in a goal mouth scramble but none of them could find the net.

Beel continued to keep Soldiers at bay before David Stone was forced to clear off the line to ensure Collingbourne maintained their clean sheet.

FC Anton 2 - 4 DG Athletic

FC Anton were knocked out of the North Hants John Ward Cup after a 4-2 home defeat against DG Athletic.

Anton made several changes from the previous week's win and started well when they took the lead in the fist 15 minute.

New signing Bruno Pinto latched on to a Liam Dolan corner striking the ball sweetly into the net.

Anton tried to extend their lead but DG Athletic stood firm until half time.

The second half started badly for Anton who were caught out three times in 15 minutes to give the visitors a 3 - 1 lead.

Anton pulled one back when Kieran Hicks came off the bench and hit a 25 yarder past the keeper.

With time running out Anton were pressing and had a couple of chances but Athletic put the game out of touch by adding their fourth in the dying minutes.
