ANDOVER Ladies finally ended their winless run with a shock 3-1 home victory against high fliers Lewes.

Motivated from the off, Andover came close in the opening minutes but it was Lewes who opened the scoring, hitting the home side well with a quick break.

Andover equalised soon after when Lizzie Vincent scored with a spectacular reverse stick strike to level the score at half time.

Andover maintained their high tempo after the break and went ahead when Liz Hacker played in Rhea Li from a penalty corner, which she blasted past the goalkeeper.

Lisa Crack scored Andover’s third to wrap up a well-deserved win.

Meanwhile the Ladies Second team came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Portsmouth and Southsea Ladies.

Andover went 2-0 down midway through the first half despite playing well in the opening exchanges but pulled one back before the break through a Jacqui West penalty.

Andover pressed hard for a second and had good chances through Louise Cuff and Emily Lord while the away side produced chances at the other end.

Sally Prior finally levelled the scoring after latching on to a West through ball while playerof-the-match Sammy Meredith pushed hard to create a winner for Andover.

However, the home side could not find a way through as both teams settled for a point.

It was not such a successful day for Andover Ladies Third side, who fell to a 3-0 away defeat at Basingstoke Thirds.

Bad weather made for difficult playing conditions but Andover dug in and defended well despite having to withstand heavy pressure.

Karman Norman impressed in goal, making some fine saves to keep the scores level, while Andover could have scored but failed to convert a short corner.

Sophie Boyne and Janette Griffiths-Jones helped Andover to a positive start in the second half. However, it was Basingstoke who broke the deadlock five minutes after the restart.

Andover continued to battle, with some fine tackling from Hannah Allmark and Becca Farndell Thorne, but could not prevent Basingstoke from scoring twice more.
