SPECTATORS at Andover Town’s recent 2-2 draw against Brockenhurst may have thought they were being treated to a surprise local derby with Andover New Street.

Visitors Brockenhurst donned the colours of New Street on Saturday after originally turning up to the Portway in all blue – the home colours of Andover Town.

After making a call to New Street boss Paul Reidy, Andover Town manager Neil Benson secured a loan for their visitors, who lined up in Street’s yellow and black strip.

After the match Benson joked: “When they were 1-0 up at half time I told them that it was only a first half loan.

“Originally I had my wife on the case and she was going to bring the Sparsholt kit up but I got hold of Paul in the meantime and he very kindly loaned them one of their kits.

“We all had a bit of a laugh about it in the end.”

The game finished in a 2-2 draw after Brockenhurst goalkeeper Callum Maher kept out Charlie Gunson's late penalty effort.

Gunson stepped up to the spot after second half substitute Carlo Santoro was tripped in the area.

However Maher dived low to deny Gunson and earn Brockenhurst an away point.

Town went one down through a stunning Scott Joyce free-kick, which curled into the top corner from 20 yards.

Andover equalised in the second half when Luke Dempsey tapped in his first goal for the club after Pekun's shot rebounded off of the post.

Lewis Benson guided a low shot into the bottom corner to give Town the 2-1 lead.

However controversy struck moments later when the referee pointed to the spot for an apparent hand-ball on Connor Cocklin.

The resulting penalty was saved by Michael Horne, only for the referee to order a re-take due to encroachment.

Mark Barker made no mistake on his second attempt, levelling the game at 2-2.
