AN ANDOVER sporting club have announced that three of their members have been selected to represent Great Britain at European level.

Andover Triathlon Club recently revealed that Louisa Vere, Judit Leskovich and Dan Mason will all compete at the European Middle Distance Championships, which are due to take place in Austria in September.

The announcement comes following the news that fellow Andover Triathlon Club member, Jan Taplin, will represent Great Britain at the Age Category Sprint Distance World Championships in Mexico later this year.

Talking about the club’s recent success, Peter Lewis said: “Their performances in previous qualifying events during 2015 ensured that they were brought to the attention of the GB selectors; an achievement all the more outstanding as all three hold down busy day jobs and only get out to train in the early hours or late at night.

“The club are enormously proud of their efforts and are excited to have a great representation at not only the European Championships, but also the Worlds being held in Mexico where Janet Taplin will be competing as well.”

The club also recently hosted their AGM and presentation evening, which was held at the Andover Masonic Hall.

At the meeting the club made special mentions to coach Sam Pratt and club chairman Rupert Griffiths, both of whom are stepping down from their roles at the club.

Mr Griffith had previously held the position of chairman for over four years and will also relinquish his role as race director of the annual Andover Triathlon.

Meanwhile the club also paid tribute to outgoing coach Sam Pratt for her ‘years of selfless support’ and thanked her for being a ‘driving force’ behind the club’s recent success.

Mr Lewis added: “The club and all its members are enormously grateful for the services of both Sam and Rupert over the years. We cannot thank them enough.”
