ANDOVER Lions boss John Smith has quit, claiming he wants to take a break from football.
The shock news came in the build-up to Lions’ clash against Bush Hill, which they lost 2-1.
Smith said he was leaving his post to take a break from football after years of input into the local game.
His assistant Iain Meechan also called it a day and it was left to Chris Paris to take the reins.
Paris said: “We knew that we were up against it [ahead of the game] and the build-up wasn’t ideal with John and Iain stepping down.
“They both did a great job for us and brought the first trophies to the team.
“We’d all like to thank them for what they’ve done and respect their decisions.
“We now need to look to the future.
Matt Scott was a big help to me Saturday and I’m hoping to be speaking to a couple of people in the next few days.
