A LATE Zach Glasspool double helped Andover Town continue their recent purple patch, with a 2-0 win over mid-table Fawley.

The forward netted twice in the final five minutes to secure the win for the Portway side, who have now won four of their last six Wessex Premier League fixtures.

The result moves Town up to 10th, having previously sat in the relegation zone earlier this season.

Andover had previously extended their unbeaten run to five league games last Tuesday with a 2-2 draw at Horndean United.

The Portway side continued their impressive turnaround in form with a strong display against their mid-table opponents, but were denied all three points by a late Jack Maloney penalty.

Charlie Gunson also continued his recent run of good form, scoring both of Town’s goals on the night.

The forward finished off a good team goal on 17 minutes to give Andover the early lead.

However Horndean hit back on 38 minutes to level the game at halftime.

Town continued to press after the break and took the lead once more when Zach Glaspool’s good hold up play was finished well by Gunson.

However the visitors denied Andover all three points, with midfielder Maloney slotting home a penalty to equalise in the 82nd minute.

A win would have been Town’s second in three days after they recorded an impressive 2-1 victory away at Newport (IOW) on Saturday.

Newport had the first chance of the game when former Town player Josh Younie had a shot tipped over by Jamie Bray.

Zach Glaspool had Andover’s opening chance but was also denied by goalkeeper Gary Streeter.

Both sides had chances to take the lead in the first half, with the best falling to Glaspool, but his shot was deflected onto the crossbar and out for a corner.

Neither side could break the stalemate in the opening 45 minutes, despite Andover having the lion’s share of possession.

Town maintained the upper hand after the break and almost took the lead through Gunson, only for this shot to be saved by Streeter.

Shane Lock was introduced in place of Rudi Plummer early on in the second half and immediately had a shot saved by the Newport stopper.

However Gunson eventually found a way past Streeter, latching on to Lock’s saved header and sweeping the ball home to give Town a 1-0 lead.

Andover continued to make chances but had to wait until injury time for a second goal, a side footed effort by substitute Lock.

At 2-0 and with second remaining Andover looked in control.

However, in the dying seconds of the game, Jimmi Burton’s shot was blocked by Craig Blakeman, only for the ball to balloon into the air, over a stranded Bray and land in the back of the net.

Despite the setback Andover saw out the game as deserved 2-1 winners.
