ANDOVER New Street Foxcotte ground is the place to be on Good Friday evening as they face local rivals Whitchurch United in a mouth watering local derby clash as they look to keep their promotion hopes on track.

New Street are second in the table at the moment two points clear of third placed Tadley Calleva with a game in hand and also two points clear of fourth placed AFC Stoneham, who they have three games in hand.

Last Friday, the side enjoyed an excellent 4-2 win over promotion rivals Laverstock and Ford.

New Street led 2-1 at the break thanks to a Callum Sweeney and an own goal.

They finished the job off as Luke Neller and Zach Neve both scored.

Unfortunately, the win came at a cost as midfielder Gunner Yates was sent-off for the first time in his career.

Laverstock also finished the contest with 10 men after Danny Finnigan was dismissed.

Last Wednesday, New Street made their second cup final this season after they beat Kingsclere 8-1 in the Andover Open Cup Nic Turpin, making a return to the side, bagged a hat trick, as did Neve and there was also a brace from Jazz Beavis.

Manager John Smith said: “It was great to make a second cup final and we now are looking to get promoted. I think if we can win four of them that should be enough.

“So if we can get two over Easter, it would be great, but no game is easy and especially one being a local derby.”

Whitchurch warmed up for their trip to New Street with a 2-1 win over promotion chasing US Portsmouth.

The Jam Boys are out to avenge a 2-1 loss earlier this month in the North Hants Senior Cup semi-final.

They come into the game after an excellent home 2-1 win over the visiting United Services Portsmouth, which came hot on the heels of a 1-1 with New Milton.

In their home win over US Portsmouth, Rory Wood, a recent signing from Sholing, scored both their goals and was denied a hat-trick by the post.

Portsmouth scored their goal in added on time.

Manager Glyn Cherrett said: “We are looking forward to the Andover New Street game and I was very pleaded with the way we played last Saturday.”

On Monday, Andover New Street entertain Folland Sports, while on Tuesday night, Whitchurch have the short trip to the Isle of Wight to face East Cowes Vics.
