A WONDER strike from Callum Sweeney helped Andover New Street to an excellent 1-0 victory over Wessex League Division One leaders Christchurch.

New Street are now five points behind the leaders with a game in hand and are in action on Thursday at home to Folland Sports, then on Saturday they are away at Verwood.

Then on Tuesday night, they have a trip to Totton and Eling, a couple more wins should see them promoted.

Manager John Smith was delighted with the win and said: "Christchurch are a good big side and we found it hard to back them down. Callum has a scored a wonder goal and full marks to the referee for playing the advantage as he was fouled before he hit it."

Once again the boss was full of praise for his back four as another clean sheet was kept.

On Saturday, New Street won 4-1 at Hythe and Dibden and Jazz Beavis scored the only goal of the first 45 minutes.

Zac Hine extended their lead, before the home side pulled a goal back.

However, New Street made sure of their fourth win on the trot as Jamie Coleman and Sweeney both scored.

WHITCHURCH United collected four points in the space of three days in the Wessex League Division One after they drew 2-2 with Romsey on last Saturday and then beat Downton 2-1 on Tuesday evening.

In Monday's victory, the Jam Boys dominated the game and should have led at the break, but the visitors made the most of a good five minute spell to score.

Whitchurch levelled things as Corey Cherrett was brought down. Nick Yeomans penalty was saved, but Jack Ormiston put away the rebound.

Then in added on injury time Yeomans grabbed the winner as intercepted a goal kick and rounded the goalkeeper.

Last Saturday, Romsey led 2-0, but the Jam Boys hit back as Ormiston found Tauren Manders, who was puleld down and Yeomans scored from the spot.

Manders then scored the equaliser as got on the end of Jack Fisher's whipped in cross.

This Saturday, Whitchurch are away at AFC Stoneham.
