ANDOVER New Street, the Wessex League Division One runners-up beat Premier Division outfit Alresford 3-0 to lift the Andover Open Cup, as the team won their first trophy in over 20 years.

They still have the chance to make it a double winning season, as New Street are in the final of the North Hants Senior Cup, where they will face Tadley Calleva next month.

Last Wednesday, New Street came into the game against their Premier rivals on the back of two league defeats, but erased that from the memory with a great performance.

They took the lead in the first 45 minutes thanks to Zach Neve and could have been further ahead before the break.

After the interval, the Division One side made sure of things, as Neve added his second and then Shane Lock grabbed a third, after good play from Jazz Beavis.

New Street manager John Smith said: "It is really great to end the first team's trophy drought. We were the better team on the night and deserved the win."

Two days later, New Street Swifts made it club double, as they won the North Hants Junior Cup as they beat Overton United A 4-1.

The Swifts were quick off the mark to stage several attacks and Overton goalkeeper Gavin Alexander, was beaten when a 20-yard shot from Charlie Rogers found the far corner of the net.

There was then a let off for the goalkeeper when his mis-kicked clearance gave Rogers a simple chance.

However, in the 27th minute Swifts did go two up. Overton's Steve Bonnor was booked for a foul out on the left and the resulting free-kick was firmly headed home by Elis Cleary Tucker.

Overton responded 10 minutes later, when Jez Reynolds headed forward for Siyanni Thomas to race through and beat the goalkeeper one-on-one. The half ended with a great goal line clearance by Mike Burridge to stop New Street going further in front.

After the interval, although the Andover League side had a lot of the play, it was Overton’s Thomas who had the best chance, shooting wide when right through, but inn the 65 minutes Rogers scored his second with a 25 yard ground shot that skidded past Alexander.

Rogers hit the bar a minute later and then in the 78th minute Harry Lawton netted New Street's fourth with a header.

Overton kept battling away, but their closest to a come back came when Kyle Buckland cut in from the right, but fired into the side netting.
