ANDOVER New Street will make club history on Saturday, when they entertain Romsey in their first ever game in the FA Cup.

The Wessex League Premier new boys ironically will start as favourites against their Division One rivals, but Romsey are expected to be one of the pace setters in their league it will be a close game.

New Street manager John Smith said: "It is a massive game, we know Romsey are decent side and they want to play in the Premier so they will keen to take a scalp."

Last Saturday, New Street made their bow in the Premier with a visit to the New Forest and Bashley and on Wednesday are at home to Shaftesbury.

The visitors enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges with the Bashley defence rescued by an offside flag after a Luke Neller through ball caused some confusion and Shane Lock’s cross, after Callum Sweeney had put him clear, passed across the six yard area untouched by friend or foe.

There was then confusion at the other end between goalkeeper Dave Tasker and his defence but fortunately for Street Bashley could not take advantage.

A minute later, a through ball off a shin saw no flag and Harry McGrath coolly rounded Tasker to put the home side ahead with 15 minutes on the clock.

Inspired by the goal the home side took the game to New Street and Sam Jackson saw a header cleared off the line and Tasker was at full stretch to deny Naseem Meddah.

Meddah twice came close, firstly with a fine run that was spoilt by a poor finish and then a better effort well held by Tasker.

After a second drinks break a speculative 40-yard effort from Sweeney was easily held by goalkeeper Collins and with the half time whistle following that was Street’s only effort on goal in the opening forty five minutes.

Three minutes into the second half Bashley doubled their lead.

A long free-kick from the right touchline was headed against the bar by Jackson and McGrath re-acted the quickest to force the loose ball home.

Smith said: "I think I played in the game the last we played at Bashley and lost 9-1. We left at noon for the game, but a crash on the A31 saw us arrive 45 minutes before kick-off.

"We leant a lot from the first game, teams are a lot more solid, but we were in the game for the whole of it and we looked a lot better when I changed it to a back four.

"I think we were unlucky with the two goals a through ball came off a shin and the other hit the top of the bar twice before dropping to one of their guys."
