VERNHAM Dean racer Simon Tilling was at a soaked Castle Combe on Monday.
The circuit had been hit with heavy overnight rain and it was still pouring down for his qualifying session in the morning. Simon handled the treacherous conditions well and put up the fastest time of all 25 drivers to claim his first pole of the year.
The rain thankfully stopped and the track was dry in places for the 15-lap race. Simon made a good start but a four-wheel drive Ford Escort made light work of the track and went into the lead. Simon had a titanic battle with Josh Fisher who then went into the lead. Simon was second but spun on a fast corner but made it safely home in third place overall and second in class.
