New Street 4 East Cowes Vics 1.
NEW Street gained what was in the end a comfortable victory over East Cowes Vics on Saturday at rain-sodden Foxcotte Park.
However it took a hair dryer half-time talk from manager Glen Butterfield to raise his side from a poor first half where they never got going in what was heavy rain which got worse as the afternoon progressed. Things were not made any easier when Chris Berntsen limped off after 15 minutes to be replaced by Prince Xhamelia but ultimately in the second half as conditions worsened his size and strength became a key factor as the visitors struggled to contain him.
New Street were still smarting from the 8-0 defeat a few weeks ago when they struggled to scrape together a side and the visitors went a goal up but after the break it was a different story. On 55 minutes Nic Turpin levelled and Xhamelia put his side in front soon after. Stuart Anderson scored the third from a corner and Nic Oliver wrapped it up near the final whistle as Street completely dominated and played some fine football.
With Vinnie Rusher expected to be back soon and most of the other walking wounded now available Butterfield is hoping for an easier ride than of late.
