James Green (Portsmouth Golf Club) won the Hampshire PGA Short Course Championship at Ampfield Golf Club on Friday after a sudden-death play-off with home favourite Jon Barnes.

Green parred the first hole of the play-off to win the Ampfield title after both players has tied on a six-under-par thirty-six hole total of 102.

Eddy Rawlings, the Hampshire PGA Captain, had led the rain interrupted Championship after an opening round of 48 with Green in second place on 50.

Jon Barnes then surged through the field with a five-under-par second round of 49 to match Green’s two round total.

Steve Richardson and Martin Rudderham won the pro-am with a 15-under-par score of 93.

Second place went to the all Ampfield partnership of Barnes and John Hazell with Corhampton’s Andrew Cloke and Paul Terry in third.

Other prize-winners included Les Thorne and Andy Richards.

The Championship was sponsored by the Hazell family, the owners of Ampfield Golf & Country Club.
