ANDOVER Cricket Club 1st XI kicked off their league campaign with a 4 wicket home defeat to New Milton at London Road.

After a successful season indoors, outdoor cricket at Longparish broke out last weekend , despite chilly conditions. The U15s started proceedings with an impressive performance against Amport U15. Sam Frost took 3-9 and Scott Sturt starred with the bat in a three wicket win. The Longparish and Amport senior sides met the following day and an impressive Amport line up laid down a marker for the coming season with a convincing win on a tricky Longparish track as they skittled a lacklustre Longparish for 43, with Martin Startup taking 4-2. Amport lost early wickets to some smart bowling by Ben Gardner but Peter Van Westhuizen and Robbie Skeates saw Amport to a seven wicket win. On Sunday morning spirits were revived by the U13s in their league match with Twyford U13. Scott Sturt, Jordan Blackmore, William Samways and Callum Giles were all in the runs and Billy Keith and Dean Hanham picked up wickets in a 101 run win.

Andover first and second XIs combined for an inter-club fixture at a cold London Road yesterday. The first side to bat lost the early wicket of new signing Sean Purchase early on to a fantastic slip catch by Tim Lewis off the ever present Luke Graham (4-50). After Lewis accounted for Martin Roberts for ten and Jonty Hadfield knocked the off stump of overseas star Greg Dawson out of the ground they were struggling at 50-3. This brought together Luke Andrews and Robbie Hadfield and Andrews bullied the bowling and was timing the ball succulently and his 94 puts him in contention for a permanent first XI slot.

ANDOVER CC are hosting a quiz night on Saturday evening, starting at 7.30pm. This coincides with the first pre-season fixture with the first XI playing Totton and Eling at home. Anyone can enter a team of up to six and entrance is £5 per person which includes food.

Longparish CC U16 closed their indoor cricket campaign by finishing a superb second to a talented Fair Oak side. The final match was a winner takes all tie in which Fair Oak came out on top. Captained by impressive U16 prospect Ollie Coetzee the remainder of the side are U14s and U13s and hopes are high for the seasons to come. The side are pictured at the recent Winchester and District Indoor League presentation that also saw the Longparish senior side receive the Division 1 title.
