Holybourne v Amport.
Amport kept their hopes of promotion alive this week with a convincing win over Holybourne.
Losing the toss, skipper Nick Bone was pleasantly surprised to be asked to bowl on what look a strange track.
Openers Leighton Bone and Ben Parkyn started getting movement and uneven bounce from the off and scoring was difficult for the Holybourne pair.
Bone had Taylor acrobatically caught by Darren Goacher and finished with 2-23 from ten overs and Parkyn bowled equally well picking up 3-36. This left the spinners the freedom they needed to draw false shots from the Holybourne middle order and with Amport holding on to all their chances, the batting side never really got going, Ian Langdown bowled a particularly miserly spell of ten overs for just 17 runs, Charlie Ayers taking 1-38 and Goacher was the pick taking 4-21 which left the Holybourne innings on just 143 from their overs.
In reply, Ayers went early, but Parkyn and Langdown enjoy a partnership of 40 before Langdown miss read one chipping to gully.
Nick Bone chipped in with 16 as Parkyn continued to score freely and when Lee Ayers and Peet Van Der Westhuizen came together the score was already on 132, Parkyn finishing on a match wining 66. A run of games against top of the table sides will decide Amport’s fate over the next three weeks, the first of which being against third placed East Woodhay.
