Overton v Amport.

Nicholas Howard sponsored Amport continued their push for promotion with a convincing win.

The weather forecast had been bad all week, but the predicted showers did not emerge and Amport’s strong batting line were quick to get going. Charlie Ayers (65) and Ian Langdown (40) put together a 100 run partnership for the second wicket, ensuring the middle order could play their shots. Ben Parkyn took a little time to find the middle, but skipper Nick Bone scored freely in his 61 not out, which included four sixes. Parkyn (53) also got going as the pair put on 90 in just ten overs as the innings closed on 269.

With runs on the board, the Amport bowlers were able to attack and the Overton reply was soon in trouble as Parkyn took wickets in his second and fourth overs.

There was a small amount of resistance from Smith (37) but when Charlie Ayers had him stumped by the dependable Martyn Startup, the slide began, with Ayers ending with fabulous figures of 6-24.

Other wickets came from Dean Woodhouse (2-30) and the Overton innings ended on 149 all out, ensuring maximums points for Amport who now sit third, but with the points tally being so close, needing another full points victory to give themselves a shot at promotion.

The final game sees them at home to fifth placed Redlynch and Hale on Saturday.
