ANDOVER 1st XI got their season back on track with an impressive eight wicket away win at Bournemouth.

Andover welcomed back experienced Glyn Treagus and Sean Purchase to strengthen the batting line up and last week’s hero Aidan Jansen and the dependable youngster Robbie Taylor kept their places among the bowlers.

Andover won the toss and skipper Matt Hooper decided to bowl first on a pitch that may have caught overnight rain.

His decision looked to backfire when Bournemouth raced to 40 without loss in the first eight overs.

Andover did well to restrict Bournemouth and Hooper (37-1) quickly introduced himself to the attack along with the leg spinner Danny Foy (25-1).

Hooper got the first breakthrough when he had the Bournemouth opener well stumped by Matt Knight and Bournemouth were 75-1 in the 20th over.

Hooper replaced himself with the control of Treagus who immediately got another wicket and Bournemouth, after a promising start, were now 82-2.

Foy was continuing to bowl with great skill and control at the other end and deservedly got the New Zealand U19 star Josh Finnie well caught by Darron Augustus.

Bournemouth were at 112-3 and Treagus picked up a further wicket superbly caught by a running Max Souther and the former Hampshire man ended with the remarkable figures of 19-2 from his 10 overs.

Foy was replaced by youngster Robbie Taylor (12-1) in only his second match and he continued the good work by Foy.

Taylor bowled with brilliant guile and deservedly picked up his first Premier League wicket when he clean bowled Hurley.

It was left to the experienced duo of Hooper and David Taylor (17-1) to bowl the last few overs at Bournemouth, in which Taylor prised out another wicket for Andover.

Bournemouth opener and captain, Martin Miller, carried his bat for an unbeaten 91 and Bournemouth ended on 181-6 from their 50 overs.

While the pitch was turning Andover believed that this score was well within their powerful batting line up.

Ali Hooper and Treagus immediately set the tone with Hooper particularly harsh on anything loose from the Bournemouth opening bowlers.

Augustus ame in but he soon lost Treagus who was adjudged to be LBW with the score on 30. Augustus finished on a well made 35 not out as Andover showed their class to take themselves past Bournemouth’s total in style, just 25 overs into their innings.
