HARRY Trebert hit a magnificent 145 not out for Wherwell II last weekend to end his side’s six-game losing streak.

Trebert, who was captaining his side for the day, scored his first ever century against Ashford Hill II on Saturday after only previously top scoring with 38.

The youngster started the day off well, winning the toss and putting Ashford in to bat.

The call proved to be a correct one when Nick Baughen picked up the first wicket of the day, closely followed by Scott Blackmore who bowled a very good spell by getting 2-51 off his 10 overs.

However, Ashford Hill started to pick up the pace towards the end of their innings, finishing on what they thought was a very impressive 258-4.

Wherwell’s run chase started off poorly when their opening batsmen lost three wickets for only 33 runs.

This brought captain Trebert and Giles Elwes to the crease, who were under pressure to come in and steady the innings.

They both got off to great starts, with Trebert picking up his very first half century, while Elwes soon followed suit.

Elwes fell soon after his half century, scoring 52 in total, but Trebert fought on, collecting his first ever century before carrying his bat back to the clubhouse with a magnificent score of 145 not out.

The score pushed Wherwell over their target, finishing the day on 261 for eight and finally ending their terrible run of form.

Speaking after the match, Harry said: “I’ve been due a big score for a number of innings now and I’m delighted I could help the team out.

“They kept me going and made sure I kept my concentration but on a personal note I am buzzing.”

Harry joined Wherwell six years ago as a promising young bowler, and has since become an integral part of the squad.

However, after this performance he could soon get his chance at a higher level.
