ANDOVER avenged their earlier defeat to second from bottom side Totton and Eling on Saturday with a five wicket win at London Road.

The Southampton-based side were relegated from the top flight last season and have under-performed so far this year but still have some dangerous players in their ranks.

With overseas star Andrew Fletcher and former professionals Richard Dibden and Jimmy Taylor, Andover were not going to underestimate them.

For the third week in a row, captain Matt Hooper lost the toss and was asked to field on a hot and sunny day.

This did not seem like a terrible outcome after pace man Darron Augustus ripped out the opening pair to leave Totton 10-2 in the first five overs.

Kiwi Fletcher and the experienced Taylor went about rebuilding the innings and the New Zealander looked fluent through the leg side and he reached 46 before Hooper bowled him.

Jenkins was soon dismissed and Taylor and Dibden grafted for an 80 run partnership, running well between the wickets.

Taylor was first to be dismissed by Dave Taylor for a well-made 51, which sparked a mini-collapse and a slowed run-rate for Totton from 157- 5 to 181-8 in the space of the final ten overs.

The re-introduction of Mike Adams sparked three quick wickets as the opposition struggled with his variety and pace.

Adams finished with excellent figures of 3-25 off eight overs as Totton finished on a below par 192-8 off 50 overs.

The run chase started with Ali Hooper launching 12 off the first over and then 13 off the third, however, he lost new partner Will Arnold to a beauty from Mooney in the second over.

Hooper got to 30 in just 15 balls and was unlucky to fall, while Augustus played a more watchful innings than his usual partner in crime, Glyn Treagus, who blazed the ball around the ground for another rapid 30 before being bowled.

Run-machine Dave Taylor came to the crease with Andover nicely poised on 84-3 off 15 overs and they milked the bowling knowing they only needed a few runs an over to keep up with the run rate.

Taylor struck four fours and three sixes in his destructive 45 before he was caught behind and Max Souter smeared 18 before being caught to leave it to the impressive Matt Knight to knock off the winning runs.

Augustus finished on 43 not out and looked a class act, holding the run chase together as they cruised over the line in the 40th over to give them a comfortable five wicket win.
