Upper Clatford travelled to Ashford Hill on Saturday for the most egerly awaited fixture of the season.
The Ashford Hill side included former Clatford player and brother of two of the Clatford team, Justin Nicel. Clatford won the toss and fielded and with the fourth ball of the game Christian Nicel caught and bowled the opener whch brought his brother to the crease. In typical fashion Justin got off the mark first ball then sweetly timed the second straight to a greatful Neil Rennie who to a great catch, leaving the home team 3-2. Both Nicel (3-17) and fellow opener Matt Glenn (4-16) bowled with good pace and troubled all the batsman but it took a remarkable one handed catch by Paul Gilbert to remove the dangerous Baylis as Ashford Hill went from 25-2 to 41-9. It was left to the skipper Andy Cattle (3-15) to finish the innings with the aid of another amazing catch from Matt Glenn to end the innings leaving Ashford Hill all out for 63. On a pitch that was still doing a bit Clatford needed a solid start and got it from Adi Harding (18) and Neil Rennie as they put on 24 before Harding top edged a full toss to gully. This bought Glen Vesey to the wicket and he took charge racing to 15 in three overs before he was caught behind. Rennie (5no) was joined by his captain and they saw Clatford home with 16 overs to spare, Cattle (21 no) ending the game with a six.
