NUMBER 13 turned out to be unlucky for the Longparish openers as the Barker, Son and Isherwood sponsored side entertained Vospers from Southampton.
Winning the toss on a well prepared pitch the home side were quickly two down, losing George Kouseff and skipper Paul Blackmore for 12 at 13-2.
Martin Bearpark and Stuart Tognarelli led a partial recovery until Tognarelli departed after scoring a useful 22 at 49-3. Ross Stewart joined Bearpark and these two took the total to 77-4 when Bearpark lost his wicket for 12. The tempo of the match changed completely with Justin Jackman at the crease with the pair adding 150 for the fifth wicket at 227-5, Jackman scoring a stylish 66 including one six and 11 fours in 73 minutes.
Stewart went on to complete his second century of the season, 100 in 117 minutes, with four sixes and 11 fours with Longparish closing on 257 all out in 44.1 overs.
Vospers were easily the best fielding side Longparish has met this season with their youthful exuberance and excellent team spirit. In reply they never really got out of the traps, not showing too much urgency and losing wickets at regular intervals at 84-5. With rain always threatening they left it too late before they attempted to up the run rate and when it eventually arrived they had scored 126-6 after 30 overs and the match was abandoned at 7.15pm. The minimum number of overs for a result is 25 and Longparish had a much better scoring rate. Barry Blackmore took 2-44, Martin Savage 2-40 and Ross Stewart 1-18.
Longparish II travelled to Great Durnford in high wind, intermittent rain and on a pitch that heavily favoured the bowler.
Longparish batted first and were unfortunate to lose Adam Lister early on to a ball that flew off a good length. Warren Bonathan and John Young batted on to the 19th over before Young was out for 11, Bonathan following him soon after for 25. Mike Wakefield added a quick 22 and colts William de Cani 17 and Matt Jackman 11, as ten man Longparish were all out for 118, 20 or 30 runs short of what would have been considered a par score for the day.
In reply Great Durnford also found batting hard going, losing wickets regularly to some excellent bowling by Jackman, Bonathan, Adam Seidman and Wakefield. Durnford lost seven wickets before passing the total in driving rain and a howling gale.
