Pembrey next for racer Dawn
Dawn in action at Snetterton
Dawn in action at Snetterton

Andover girl racer Dawn Boyd will be looking for a change in fortune at Pembrey this weekend at the latest round of the Dunlop Great and British MINI Challenge.

The previous round at Snetterton provided some great weather and a newly serviced car and Dawn qualified seventh, fifth and fifth in class for the weekends races, her best ever positions, despite the cars power cutting out part way through a 100mph corner, leaving her with no engine and no power steering.

In race one Dawn was battling for fifth when the gearbox failed for half a lap and she finished tenth in class.

In race two all hell broke loose and she had to take avoiding action and it put her in a strong fourth place before the first corner but on lap two the gear box failed completely. It was replaced 20 minutes before the third race and the rolling start proved very successful but the closing cars around her hit on the first corner and she was sent into a spin, and was hit across the front bumper by another car taking avoiding action. After recovering she was able to continue and battled with the bruised car to come home in seventh place.

Dawn has high hopes for a strong weekend as there are two qualification rounds and four races to get some good points.
