Kick-off tomorrow at the Portway

1:52pm Friday 15th August 2008

HAVING completed their intense pre-season campaign, the Lions begin the new league season tomorrow with a visit from Beaconsfield SYCOB.

There is a quiet optimism in the ranks as manager Mick Catlin begins his first full season at the Portway and with a number of new faces on show, along with the return of a couple of others, plus a new reserve side, there is much to look forward to. After tomorrow, Lions have two games in Somerset inside four days as they visit Wordsworth Drive on Wednesday night to take on Taunton Town and on the following Saturday are a dozen miles up the A38 when they go to Bridgwater Town.

The Reserves have been entered into the Hampshire League 2004 and begin their campaign with an away game at Four Marks tomorrow before entertaining Mottisfont tomorrow week.

Bank Holiday Monday gives the chance for Lions' fans to see both teams in action as the first team take on Burnham at 3pm followed by the Reserves playing Denmead and Purbrook at 6pm.

With the Southern League kicking off a week after the Wessex League, Andover New Street, Stockbridge and Whitchurch United all have played twice. New Street are home to champions Tadley Calleva tomorrow while Stockbridge entertain US Portsmouth and Whitchurch United are home to AFC Portchester.
