Queen still on song

12:53pm Friday 22nd August 2008

Round 11 and the relegation/promotion issues are beginning to become much clearer.

The Queen Charlotte are showing some very impressive form as they strive to gain yet another league trophy. A 6-3 away win at a spirited Central Crusaders consolidated their top position with the highlight being an excellent clearance by Neil Davis. The George beat third place QCCS 5-4 to end an impressive run which has catapulted them into a very creditable third place. This has left the George in a secure second place, 14 points behind the Charlotte.

Division One is hotting up with three teams realistically battling it out for Premiership pool. The Oak, Borough and Central FD all had 5-4 wins and this has meant that the White Hart and the New Chestnut are battling to stay in the First Division. All three of the top teams boast players that have played in the Premiership and all could hold their own with several of the clubs already there.

The Central Wanderers had a competitive match against the Division Two leaders, Wolversdene Bandits before losing out 5-4. With only seven matches left it is difficult to see them not dropping a league. The Bandits are closely followed by the Lamb Berettas who had a 7-2 win over the Town Mills and Hurstbourne RBL who beat the Entertainer convincingly.

In Divisions Three and Four the Crown and Forester Faithfulls both remain firmly at the top of their respective divisions.

With the season drawing to a climax, the finals of all the team and individual cups will be taking place in the next month. Congratulations to Sean Curtis and John Gray from the Southampton Arms A team for winning the recent men's doubles final. Sean has played some superb pool during the summer and deserves praise for reaching the semis and finals of the men's singles, doubles and Captains Cup. His team are also in the final of the Team A Knockout competition.
