Four of the best for New Street

2:31pm Wednesday 27th August 2008

NEW Street were missing four players from their strongest line up on Saturday but started at breakneck speed, battering the Shaftesbury goal.

They went in front on 11 minutes through an own goal with no Street player anywhere near before influential sweeper Mark Greenhalgh headed them futher in front. His day was not complete as he was soon off to hospital after the game where his wife was ready to give birth.

Shatftesbury fought back but Street went three up through John Robb only to be pegged back just before the break through Lee Gale.

The second half was all Shaftesbury and Lee Hale made it 3-2 with 15 minutes left. Street made it safe when Casson Spencer's effort was saved only for Jamie Piper to net the rebound.

New Street are hoping to hang onto midfielder Paul Worsfold but with seven day approaches from several clubs, including Winchester City, the lure of Southern League football may be too much.

On Monday New Street travelled to Ringwood Town again with several players unavailable and they gave a poor display, going down 2-0. A missed penalty by Casson Spencer did not help although there was an impressive display from Elliot Rushforth, another one of the impressive youngsters from Thatcham.

Ray Cozzi's reserves ran out deserved winners in their first game of the season, beating Romsey Town Reserves 3-1 with goals from Prince Xamelai, Josh Hammett and Kris Hudson.
