New Street edge closer to league title

New Street Swifts U16 2 Barton Rovers U16 0.

New Street Swifts moved a step closer to lifting the Peter Houseman Premier League trophy with a hard fought and thrilling victory against nearest rivals Barton Rovers at Enham last Sunday.

The visitors are a top Reading outfit and began the season as favorites to win this league, but Declan Barrett’s JMG Creative Print sponsored Street side have developed strongly this term and have really taken the league by storm.

Street now need just a draw gainst Wooton Hill to lift the trophy after a superb performance in which keeper Tom Crozier, Macca Woods and man of the match Marcus Tyler defended brilliantly.

The first half was goalless and just after the break midfield general Tom Parkinson opened the scoring after Charlie Waite's power set him up. Waite terrorised the Barton defence all day and grabbed the second himself after a mazy run with15 minutes to go.

Barton tried to respond, but with Josh Cornwall and Callum Trickett shutting down midfield and Matt Harper Ronald a constant outlet, Street comfortably held them out to record an excellent win.
