Tough few days ahead for Andover New Street
New Street stayed rooted to the bottom of the Wessex League Division One after a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Hythe and Dibden.
Managed by former Lion Lee Burch, Steve Knight put them ahead before the returning Ryan Heathershaw set up another ex-Lion Dave Cotter, who equalised.
Burch then chested down and scored with a half-volley to restore his side’s advantage before further goals from Hakeem Osumah and Seun Olabiyi finishing off a great move, completed the win for the visitors.
Street boss Matt Styles admitted after: “No excuses, we were bad. The first 15 minutes were OK then Hythe scored after some poor defending.”
With Dave Tasker out with a broken rib and Alan Ralph also injured young Sam Holloway kept his place in goal.”Sam had a good game and I can’t knock him” said Styles. “It was just poor defending for all the goals.”
“We had a good spell just after the break where Nic Oliver, Jack Hutchings and Prince Xamela all could have scored but in the end we weren’t good enough.”
“Cole Hinchcliffe and substitute Nic Oliver had good games and Ryan came back after a spell out and made the goal for Cotter.”
New Street have a brutal next two games as on Saturday they entertain Cowes Sports in the league then entertain free-scoring Andover Town in the Hants Senior Cup on Thursday September 12.
Styles will not be available as he has been given a place in the New York Marathon in a few week’s time but is looking forward to the derby.
“If we play like we can there is no reason why we cannot give Town a game” he added.
The Cowes game is at 3pm on Saturday while the Town game kicks-off at 7.45pm.
