Successful day again for Streets Ahead
12:00am Wednesday 25th September 2013 in Football
Streets Ahead held its eighth Inclusive (Special Needs) Football Festival at the New Street FC ground, Foxcotte Park. Teams came from Woking Disability (football for all), Southampton FC, FourClubs United and AFC Bournemouth to join Streets Ahead (New Street FC) for a fun day of football. There were 134 players in total - Adults, U16s and U12s.
Sir George Young, Streets Ahead patron, opened the eventcommenting that it was marvellous to see so many players gathering together to share a day of football.
Matches were played on three pitches and were ten minutes in length, one way.
The rain held off for most of the day but eventually play was suspended and medals were later presented in the clubhouse. Dominic Calvert, Streets Ahead’s head coach, thanked everyone for coming and said that there had been some great football played in the best of spirits and enjoyed by all, players and spectators alike. Thanks were given to New Street FC for the venue and to Tesco who provided bottled water for the players. Thanks were also given to Simplyheath for their generous donation and to the Short Breaks Team, Hampshire CC. who awarded a grant. Such support enables Streets Ahead to continue to provide football for all. Streets Ahead continues to meet once a week during term time. They are looking for coaches and volunteers - contact Sue Simmonds on 012634 350420. Streets Ahead was one of five groups shortlisted in Hampshire for the Queen's Award for Voluntary Services 2013.
