Overton United 5 Colden Common 3.

Overton’s punishing end of season campaign continued on Saturday as they enjoyed a well earned win over visiting Colden Common.

The game started with a high tempo and both teams looking to push forward and get an early goal but midway through the half Jordan Parker took advantage of a defensive mix up to put Common ahead.

Straight from the restart Chris Lavisher made it 1-1 and the game became very open and it looked like either team could score.

Both sets of defenders were not at their best but some good work from both keepers kept the game even until another mistake on the 42nd gifted Ged Magee Common’s second.

After the break Overton got off to a great start with Dave Parry working his way past the midfield four to unleash his shot from 20 yards only to see their keeper push the ball out to Jordan Grant who poked it home.

A mistimed tackle by Parry gave Colden Common a penalty on the 55th minute which was put away by Michael Mullins but again from the restart Overton went down the other end and scored to make it 3 - 3 through Alex Jupp just before the hour.

A double substitution helped Overton’s cause as with 15 minutes left Jupp got another goal to make it 4.3.

It became all Overton and five minutes from Lavisher beat the defence to clinch the game.

Overton joint boss Jamie Fewtrell said after: “The second half comeback was extremely pleasing but looking back on the game Overton rode their luck at times, dug deep but in my opinion deserved the win for effort alone.”
