Kelvin Cup Final.
Arms Athletic 1 Wherwell 1 aet.
Arms won 4-3 on penalties.
Arms’ goalkeeper Alex Thompson won the man of the match award after his penalty save resulted in a 4-3 shootout win for his side in the Kelvin Cup Final at Winklebury last Sunday.
Wherwell’s Zach Neve hit the bar from distance before midway through the half Matt Styles headed against the bar for Arms.
Matthew Pospischill broke clear on the half hour but was denied by Thompson while Wherwell keeper Craig Neve was also active at the other end with a one on one save when Styles was right through.
Wherwell took the lead just after the break with Zac Neve their scorer before two efforts from Cole Hinchcliffe and it wasn’t until ten minutes from time when the equaliser came when Matt Scott drilled home and only a great save from Neve stopped Scott scoring the winner with three minutes left.
In extra-time both sides had chances, Arms’ substitute Shane Kimber hitting the post and Hinchcliffe scraping the bar with a free-kick but it went to penalties and Thompson was the hero.
