Sparsholt’s Elite boys added the Hampshire Midweek Youth Cup to their already impressive haul this season when they beat Havant and Waterlooville on Friday night at the Conference South side’s Westleigh Park.

Havant are clear at the top of their Conference Youth Alliance League having lost just one game all season butthey had little answer to the young Saints as Ed Chappe put his side in front with a composed finish then Oli Bailey completed a stunning move involving Chappe and David Jerrard for the second.

Havant pulled one back through Harry Wedlake with ten minutes left to set up a thrilling finale but Sparsholt saw the game out to clinch their third cup of the season.

Coach Neil Benson said after the game: “We dominated the first half and our passing game drew compliments from Havant and from the Hampshire FA people.

It was a tough night as we only had two fit players on the bench and Charlie Gunson was a big loss.”

Skipper Tom Pattison was man of the match while Josh Helm was only beaten by Havant’s late goal which appeared to take a bobble.

Benson’s squad, under the guise of Andover Town U18, now prepare for their final three SW Counties League games where three wins would give them a fourth title of what is a memorable campaign.
