Overton needed a win from the last game of a long Hampshire Premier League season for a top five finish – and they got it it in convincing style at Hedge End.
Overton fielded James Jupp in goal after playing most of the season at right back, and he had to make a couple of stops from long range.
The game became open and Chris Morris, Chris Lavisher and Danny Houseman all missed chances before the break.
The second half began at a fast and furious pace and rash tackles went flying in.
With only five minutes gone Hedge End were reduced to ten men after a player was dismissed for retaliating following a foul.
The home side took immediate revenge as Andy Bauck gave them the lead from the free-kick.
Straight from the restart Nick Jupp committed another foul and yet again the Hedge End player tried to retaliate and was also shown a straight red card to leave the hosts down to nine men.
United manager Jamie Fewtrell then decided to play three up front and Ollie Bode went from right back to centre forward to support Lavisher and Houseman.
The tactical switch worked straight away as Bode equalised on the hour and from then on in it was all Overton.
Houseman put United ahead six minutes later, Myles Englefield netted the third then Lavisher made it 4-1 to finish the game.
Man of the match was Jamie Smith.
