WHITCHURCH United remained top of the Wessex League Premier Division after a 5-3 win over visiting Christchurch.

The home side got off to a dream start as they scored after 21 seconds. Jack McCarthy’s pass split the defence and Jack Garner scored with a Christchurch player touching the ball on its way in.

Whitchurch goalkeeper Brad Snelling was tested twice before Whitchurch made it 3-0 inside 10 minutes.

Danny Phillips got the second and then Rudi Plummer opened his account for the club.

The visitors forced themselves back into the game as Dan Haysom scored, after Ryan Lambert cleared off the line, to make it 3-1 at halftime.

Whitchurch added a fourth soon after the break, as Ben Thomson cleverly lobbed the visiting goalkeeper.

Christchurch hit back and made it 4-3 before a free-kick from Josh Harfield made sure of the win for the home side.

This weekend Whitchurch entertain Brockenhurst and are looking to complete a quick double over the visitors, who they beat 1-0 on the first Saturday of this month.

The Jam Boys are also in action on Wednesday night, when they face visiting Stockbridge in the second round of the North Hants Senior Cup.
