Overton completed their season in the Hampshire Premier with a seventh place finish and 50 points after a 2-1 win over Clanfield.

On a perfect pitch both teams looked likely to score and both keepers had to be alert as chances came and went for both sides. Too many opportunities were missed by both sets of strikers until just before the half hour Conor Jeram intercepted a bad clearance and shot in off the post to put Clanfield one up.

In the second half Overton began to get the upper hand and upped the tempo and looked more dangerous on the attack. Both Jesse Todd and Dave Parry should have scored and Danny Houseman also had a chance but again the ball would not find the net.

These opportunities gave Overton the lift they needed and they looked more likely to score when with 14 minutes left Nick Jupp’s free-kick found Todd who outjumped his defender the head home the equaliser.

From the restart it was all Overton and within three minutes another free-kick from man of the match Alex Jupp curled round the wall and the keeper for what proved to be the winner.

Assistant manager Jamie Fewtrell said: “That almost secured us a top six spot and we would like to thank everyone at the club who have helped us throughout the season and a big thank you to all the home match day supporters for coming out in all weathers to see us play.”
