STOCKBRIDGE suffered a horrendous start to their season this week, conceding 12 goals and scoring just once in their opening two games.

The Robins were smashed 6-1 in their season opener against newly promoted Infinity last Saturday before being hit for six once more when they played Hamble Club last Tuesday night.

The Hampshire Premier League side, playing at home in both fixtures, were torn apart by Infinty’s 6ft 5in striker Sam Floyd who scored a magnificent hat-trick to help punish a fairly new Stockbridge side.

Additions included goalkeeper Tom Crozier, who made several important saves early on to keep the score at 0-0.

However Floyd broke the deadlock after 23 minutes when the former Southern and Wessex League player headed in from a corner and he doubled his tally minutes later to put Infinity 2-0 up.

Stockbridge thought they had brought one back soon after but it was ruled out by the linesman who judged it offside.

The home side went into the break 2-0 down but it did not take long after the restart for Infinty to extend their lead through Nick Brown.

Floyd then bagged his hat-trick with 20 minutes to go, taking advantage of a defensive mix-up before smashing it past a helpless Crozier.

Stockbridge suddenly came to life and were rewarded when a lovely cross from Lee Hamilton found Nathan Rae, who made it 4-1.

The revitalised Robins then went close on several occasions but Infinity struck twice in the last couple of minutes through Dave Philpott and Mark Harnet to complete the thrashing.

Stockbridge’s poor start then continued on Tuesday night when they conceded another six goals, at home to Hamble Club.

Ricky Bull and Coby Wilson scored twice in three minutes just before the break and Wilson and Liam Crook made it 4-0 before the hour mark.

James Thomson and Connor Rowe then grabbed a goal apiece to compound Stockbridge’s misery and bring the scoring up to 6-0.

The two big losses leave Stockbridge rock bottom of the Hampshire Premier League with a negative 11 goal difference.
