ANDOVER Ladies got their season off to a dream start as they clinched a 2-1 home win over Horsham.

Playing in their first league game of the season, the home side dominated the possession in the first half, coming close on a number of occasions through shots from Sue Robinson and Lizzie Vincent.

However, Andover could not make the breakthrough and were frustrated further as Horsham broke the deadlock to put the away side 1-0 up going into half time.

Andover re-grouped after the break and surged forward in attack, forcing Horsham into conceding several penalty corners.

It was through one of these penalty corners that Andover opened their account when a shot from Robinson forced a save from the keeper, and Rhea Li was first to the rebound to volley the ball into the net.

Andover continued to surge forward with Sarah Wiseman and Jodie Williams battling well to create chances for Andover.

The home team’s second goal followed a strike from the top of the D, with Lisa Crack sweeping the ball into the goal to give her side an important opening day win.

Meanwhile the Ladies Seconds also had a good day, defeating Haslemere Ladies 5-3 at John Hanson School.

Four goals from man-of-the-match Chloe Franklin, a goal from Jacqui West and a gutsy hard working team performance gave Andover a deserved victory to make it two wins from two at the start of the league season.

Andover face a tough game next week against Southampton Uni.

It was not all good news for Andover last weekend however as an understrength Andover Diamonds team fell to a 4-1 League Cup defeat away at Trojans Veterans.

Playing with just 11 men, Diamonds gave a good account of themselves, creating several good chances in the first half.

However they were kept out by some impressive goalkeeping work before Trojans snatched a goal to give them a half-time lead.

Diamonds conceded three in the second half before some impressive play by Glyn Hacker and man-ofthe-match Paul Collins sprung the away side back into life.

Richard Romer-Lee capitalised on Andover’s new found confidence, snatching a consolation goal.
