ANDOVER Lions crashed out of the Hampshire Intermediate Cup on Saturday after suffering a heartbreaking penalty shootout loss to Isle of Wight League side, Shanklin.
Both sides went into the game boasting unbeaten records in their respective leagues.
But it was the island based side who came out on top despite the Lions clawing back a late equaliser to level the game at 2-2 and force the tie into extra time.
Shanklin went ahead after 15 minutes when the Lions gave away a silly free kick on the edge of the area and Ryan Hill took full advantage, heading home the resultant set play.
The Lions got back on level terms when Shane Lock produced a bursting run from the halfway line before taking the ball to the side of the keeper and firing home from the edge of the area.
In the second half Shanklin took the lead after a quick counter attack opened up space for Seabrook who calmly slotted past Dan Magee to give the home side a 2-1 lead.
The Lions pressed hard but were forced to wait until the 87th minute to level the scoring when Kris Hudson curled a beautiful free kick into the top left hand corner.
The celebrations were short lived as Shanklin held their nerve in the penalty shoot-out to win 6-4.
The Lions recovered in mid-week, beating Alresford Town Reserves 3-1 in the North Hants Intermediate Cup.
