FC Anton 1 George SMB 2 FC

ANTON had an unsuccessful return to league action, losing 2-1 at home to leaders George SMB.

The Sunday League Division Four team had not played in the league for a month due to cup fixtures but gave a good account of themselves against a side who sit top, seven points ahead of their nearest rivals.

The away side took the lead from a free kick before Anton thought they had equalised through Keiran Hicks.

However the referee said the ball did not cross the line and the goal was disallowed.

The George scored a second after the break and Anton nearly pulled one back through a penalty, but the spot kick was easily saved.

Anton did finally score late on through Hicks but the George held out to take all three points.

Welcome Stranger 3 Wyke Down Argyle 0

A manager-less and captain-less Welcome Stranger maintained their second consecutive clean sheet as they beat Wyke Down Argyle 3-0.

Richard Mattock, Luke Soulby and Steve Smith took over joint managerial responsibility while Jamie Murphy donned the captain's arm band.

Despite the large scale changes, Stranger started well and were 1-0 up early on through James Rogers.

Steven Shaw added a second before half time to give Stranger a comfortable lead.

With the second half under way Wyke down started put play some better football and started to create more and make a game of it.

However Wyke down went down to ten men and the home side made the most of the extra player as man-of-the-match Gary Brown scored to wrap up a convincing 3-0 win for Stranger.

Shalbourne 3 - 3 Cabin 34

Cabin 34 came back from three goals down to earn a hard fought point against Shalbourne.

Despite the miserable weather conditions, and Cabin playing with just 10 men, the Divison Four sides put on a good show on Sunday.

The home side took a three goal lead into half time after strikes from Danny Martin, Aiden Maycock and a 30-yard scream from Phil Noonez.

However the Cabin strikers continued to battle and put the away side back in touching distance, with two goals before half time.

After the break and with the wind behind them Cabin 34 soon equalised.

Both teams had chances to win it but played out a draw which was the least the visiting ten men deserved.

Shalbourne's man-of-the-match was teenager James Kadzidlo.
