OVERTON United enjoyed a 2-0 victory over local rivals Stockbridge in the Hampshire Premier League.

The visitors had the better of the start with good chances falling to new signing Adam Bartlett and striker Ashley Childs, however some strong saves from home goalkeeper Sean O’Brien kept them out.

Having weathered the early storm Overton hit back as Chris Lavisher slotted home after 15 minutes.

A quick throw from former Stockbridge player Nathan Rea found Laith Aldoori’s feet, who knocked the ball on to Lavisher.

The midfielder then beat one defender before calmly finishing past the onrushing Robins goalkeeper, Lewis Murphy.

Stockbridge hit back and had a couple of chances when Lee Hamilton’s pass found Bartlett inside the penalty area but O’Brien was there once again to save.

The home side then had a whole host of chances from Kirk Smith and Myles Englefield, but were unable to add to their tally, as they went into the break 1-0 up.

Overton suffered a blow when centre back Dave Case was hauled off 10 minutes into the second-half, but sub Ben Dibbern linked up really well with man-of-the-match Craig Smith to keep Stockbridge at bay.

Meanwhile Overton kept Murphy busy at the other end, forcing two good saves from the goalkeeper in a matter of minutes.

However Murphy was finally beaten again after 65 minutes as Rea and Lavisher combined again for the midfielder’s second of the contest.

As the game drew to a close Jonny Gurney and Myles Englefield both saw shots hit the post and Sammie Aldoori was also denied by another great save by Murphy.

However neither side could add to the scoresheet as Overton claimed an important victory.

After the game, Overton jointmanager, Titch Bloomfield, said: “It was a great win for us and I am delighted we were able to build on the success of last week."
