ANDOVER Town suffered their heaviest defeat of the season as they were thrashed 6-0 away at local rivals Salisbury FC on Tuesday night.

Town went into the game as clear underdogs with their promotion chasing opposition boasting a ten match winning run prior to kick-off.

And there were to be no upsets at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium on Tuesday as goals from Eddie Perrett, Ashley Jarvis and Sam Wilson gave the Whites a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time.

Andover’s Sammy Pekun did cause a scare early on however when he broke clear of the Salisbury defence, only to miscue his shot wide.

Perrett calmed the nerves of the 600-plus home support just seven minutes in however when a corner was headed back across goal and he was there to finish acrobatically at the near post.

Andover replied quickly through another Pekun breakaway, the winger this time opting to square the ball to Lewis Benson.

However goalkeeper Charlie Searle quickly smothered the ball, injuring himself in the process, before being replaced by Nathan Bull.

Pekun continued to cause problems for the Salisbury back line but it was opposite winger Danilo Cadete who came closest to equalising, only for his shot to smash into the crossbar and out to safety.

Despite Andover’s resilience, Salisbury soon doubled their lead when Danny Young put in a low cross to Jarvis to tap home.

Wilson added the final goal of the half in almost identical fashion just minutes later - this time former Andover Town star Claudio Herbert the provider.

Herbert continued to haunt his old team after the break and provided an assist for Salisbury’s fourth, six minutes into the second half.

His blocked shot found the path of Young who tapped home despite the best efforts of Jamie Bray to keep it out.

Then came an unfortunate moment for Town captain Lewis Benson, who headed a Herbert shot past Bray and in for an own-goal.

Town showed spirit in the remaining minutes, with Michael Dixon just failing to capitalise on two good chances.

However Salisbury completed their rout in injury time when Wilson tapped home a Tom Wheelan free-kick to score his 30th of the season.

The result leaves Andover Town in 6th in the Wessex Premier League after 20 games while Salisbury now hold a commanding five point lead at the top of the table.

Town will now be hoping to pick themselves up quickly when they face a struggling Moneyfields side at the Portway Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Kick-off will take place at 3pm.
